Lisa Disbrow

Hi everyone. Thanks for visiting my website.

I'm a Contra Costa native, mom, Nana, veteran teacher and a multi- generational Californian. My great-great grandmothers spoke Spanish and were supporters of the  famous outlaw, Joaquin Murietta. I learned Spanish to connect with my family roots.

I graduated from Cal State Hayward with a BA in Spanish Literature and went on to finish my credential as a Bilingual Spanish K-8 multiple subjects teacher. I later completed a School Administration Credential program at Cal State East Bay.

I began my career teaching in a Title 7 Model Spanish Bilingual Program. I presented our results at the California Association of Bilingual Educators and the National Association of Bilingual Educators.

After years of teaching other grade levels in other districts I focused on early literacy at the kindergarten level to see if a strong phonics program would create greater literacy success. The results were encouraging. Strong early readers became strong early writers and willing learners.

After 34 years in education, teaching through zoom to kindergarteners in 2020 for 4 months and a full zoom school year in 2020-2021 with kindergarten students, I retired.

I retired on the first day of staff preparation for the 2021-22 school year due to the indifference to the needs of the children I witnessed from the school leadership.  As  teachers, we had seen 2 different classes suffer through school closure, isolation, family employment upheaval, and a message of invisible fear. To see these messages  continued on our campus with no awareness of the deep impact on our elementary students was my breaking point.  I cried. I did not want to end my career. I wanted to continue teaching. However, I refused to enforce masking and an intense fear based daily experience to young children who had already been distressed preschoolers for 2 years. I resigned. As a teacher I took an oath to protect and defend our children physically, emotionally and academically. We must reject harm to already traumatized young children.

Today California education believes its job is to correct social ills and transform the minds and hearts of students according to its vision, shaped by teachers unions and associations. I disagree. I believe we each decide for ourselves what we believe and value. No one decides for us.  I believe this vision denies parents and family members their First Amendment right to lead their children in their values, beliefs, family culture and faith. We are citizens who have individual, not group based rights.

Today's schools are teaching children they can:

  • Be trapped in the wrong body
  • Have the wrong brain
  • Safely experiment with sexual intimacy as minors
  • Safely use drugs to stop their puberty
  • Change their sex and become another identity by using drugs and surgery
  • That sex is not biologically determined at conception but is fluid and unlimited.

Parents and taxpayers object!

Parents of different faiths, backgrounds, and values do not want these views taught to their children. As parents they have the right to oppose the undermining of their family values, their child-parent bonds and beliefs. They do not want the schools to parent their children.

I believe the role of school is to educate our diverse student populations in academic matters alone. A teaching credential does not give anyone moral authority over parents or taxpayers. Every American has a right to teach their values, beliefs, faith and worldview to their children. Schools must return to their sole responsibility, academic instruction. Teaching core academic content without social or political indoctrination is their job as public servants.

Children belong to their families, not school districts. All can have their views without imposing on the views of others.
